Ghost starts with a simple hit hat groove and then quickly gets into a nice melody, drum beat, and smooth vocals that captures your attention immedietly, letting the song hypnotize you all the way up to the sweet future bass drop.

You might think the song is not a dance song at first, but you quickly hear it transforming into a sweet drum and bass/future bass style song speeding up and then finally hitting you full force with amazing future bass bliss on the drop. Like a rose starting from a bud and opens up into a beautiful flower, the same goes for “Ghost”.

Jameston was nice enough to give me some of his time and talk about “Ghost”, his music, VST’s, his futre plans and more check it out below.

Jameston Interview

Tell us about Ghost. How did you come up with this idea for this song?

The idea behind ghost was to create a sort of explanation for my own anti-social behavior. I’ll get so lost in my artistic exploration that I forget to call friends, I forget to go outside. I wrote it when I first moved to LA, amongst all the chaos that city brings, I felt a need to express how I truly felt about my journey getting there. It is a sort of a musical explanation to everyone who has wondered, “where has Jake been?”. I’ve spent so much time isolated and not engaging in social settings, it left me feeling like I was probably somewhat dead, or a ghost to a lot of people. It’s something that makes me sad, because I love the people in my life so much, but my artistic process is so demanding, when I’m deep in ideas it feels like the only important thing to me is getting those ideas out. This song was so healing to write because it comes from such a personal place. It feels to me like a musical apology / reminder to myself that everything is fine, and the people close to me understand these things about me.

What Inspired you to make this?

A need to express my aforementioned feelings artistically, to sort of release the negative energy.

How did you begin producing electronic dance music?

I started gaining interest in production / recording when I was around 13, although my focus was placed more on the recording side. Eventually, eventually at age 15 I got a bootleg copy of Reason, off craigslist, for Christmas. I opened it up, began messing around and that lead to where I am today.

Do you have a favorite VST plugin or instrument to use?

That’s a hard question for me, there’s a lot of plug-ins I use frequently and appreciate heavily.

If I was for some reason forced to use only 1 plugin for the rest of my life I would choose Kontakt. You can do everything in there and it makes manipulating samples really interesting and easy.

What can we expect from you next year?

I have a bunch of music finished and ready to be released. Some music coming on some really cool labels I’ve always wanted to work with, and scattered shows around the country. Wherever I play, I love meeting everyone who supports me, so if I’m coming to your city, reach out and we will find some time to talk! Other than that, I feel like I’m writing some of the most meaningful music in my life, and I can’t wait for it all to see the world.
