EDM RANKS DJ Jounce Interview [EXCLUSIVE]

Tell us about “Nobody Knows”. How did you and Christina come up with this song?

We had agreed to work on a track.  Christina provided me with a scratch vocal and I loved it.  She’s got such a great voice and it was very inspirational for me to build all the instrumentation around it.  We ended up having a full remix package done so there’s five other totally different versions.

You did a fantastic job on “Nobody knows”, it has a nice Trance feel to it if you know what we mean, haha.  Do you plan to release more feel good songs like this in the future?

Thanks.  Yeah, although most of what I write is in a minor tonality, I do enjoy a big, anthemic festival track, especially with some trance elements. I’m actually working on another collaboration right now with another producer in Europe and it’s definitely going to be a feel good track.  Stay tuned!

“Kick The Bass” is freaking crazy, how do people react in the club when you drop this?

I’ve gotten some great responses. I actually played it when I was a recent guest DJ on Rave Train TV’s 3rd Season. The episode just came out on Youtube (@RaveTrainTV) and I think they really enjoyed it. I think one of the dancers actually rolled his ankle during filming.  He said he had no regrets cause it was crazy fun. Haha

How did you begin producing electronic dance music?

I’ve been a musician from an early age. Music is definitely my passion. I’ve been in everything from rock bands to jazz bands. As a creative person, I think electronic was just the next step in the evolution of music for me. You can do so much with just a computer and plugins. I think the endless possibilities in production combined with my interest in dance really got me into this game.  And there’s nothing else I’d rather be playing.

Do you have a favorite VST plugin or instrument to use?

For soft synths, my favorites are probably Serum and Spire.  There’s a lot out there.  I’m not gonna lie, it’s tough to get really proficient with every plugin so I just try to focus on a smaller toolbox, but know it really well.

What did you love most about your tour in Asia?

The people.  I’ve been touring there every year so I have a small network of friends in the main cities I visit.  They’re all homes away from home.  And then you always meet more people. Everyone is so damn nice. I wish I could spend more time there but I gotta keep moving.

What can we expect from you next year?

A lot more music for sure! I’ve had some family stuff that’s kept me busy for a while, but I think I’ll be able to focus more fully on my production now. I’m very excited about the future.  I feel as energized as a kid with the mind of a mad scientist and no boundaries.
