What does it cost us to go out on the weekdays or weekends for a night and party? We all know that feeling waking up the next morning with a horrible headache, A lighter wallet, and stuck trying to remember exactly what happened and what you spent your money on.
Eventbrite did a study on how the average nightlife fan spends their money, By analyzing data from the top 6 cities in America that grow into a nightlife monster after the sun goes down.
While every city loves their favorite nighttime snack and drink, Ticket prices cost the most money and is the variable factor that helps drive all other nightlife activities.
Average Night Life Cost For A Night Out In the City
The average event goer spends $81 on a night out and goes out 2 nights per week.
Ticket prices cost the most money and took up the biggest portion of nightlife budgets.
The average ticket price combined from all 6 cities equaled out on average costing $34 per night, Making them the 1st most costly item for a night out partying at your favorite club or local event. Which is great news for the EDM industry, And also great for the DJs and EDM artists too.
Each ticket varies based upon the location, date and act playing but one thing was certain everywhere tickets ranked in the top number one item to break the bank. Ticket sales and going to an event promotes spending in other sectors for nightlife.
Drinks on average taking up $26 per night, Making them the 2nd most costly item for a night out partying.
Transportation & Getting to the event
Transportation and getting to the event on average costs $11 per night, Making this the 3rd most costly item for a night out partying.
Food & Late night snacks
Food and late night snacks on average cost $10 per night, Making food and late night snacks the 4th most costly item for a night out partying.
Nightlife Event Cost By Category
Currently, music events are the most popular type of nightlife event, EDM and Hip Hop/Rap shows sell the most nightlife music tickets at 31%.
Though everyone may love the same music, They don’t always share the same choice for drinks, transportation and reasons to go out on the town for the night. Everyone has their own unique preference.
- 79% of country fans drink 3+ drinks when they go out (vs 64% average)
- 57% of EDM fans use ride sharing apps (vs 46% average)
- 59% of hip hop/rap fans go out to “get their groove on” (vs 50% average)
- 68% of indie fans go out to enjoy the culture (vs 58% average)
In all 6 American cities surveyed
- Chicago was 1st with the most expensive night out at $90 and an average ticket cost at $38.
- Atlanta was 2nd with the most expensive night out at $87 and an average ticket cost at $44.
- Los Angeles was 3rd with the most expensive night out at $85 and an average ticket cost at $33.
- New York was 4th with the most expensive night out at $82 and an average ticket cost at $37.
- Austin was 5th with the most expensive night out at $71 and an average ticket cost at $26.
- San Francisco was the 6th with the most expensive night out at $71 and an average ticket cost at $24.
Chicago is Tied with Los Angeles for spending the most on Drinks, A night out in Chicago will cost you $90.
Spending the least on transportation,And most on Snacks, Atlanta takes 1st place for the highest ticket prices for any of the 6 states surveyed, A night out in Atlanta will cost you $87
Los Angeles has cheaper ticket prices than Chicago, But they love drink just as much. A night out in Los Angele’s will cost you $85
A night out in New York will cost you $82.
A night out in Austin will cost you $71.
Having the cheapest ticket prices, A night out in San Francisco will cost you $71.
Eventbrite Survey Methodology
For this study, Eventbrite analyzed data from more than 10,000 nightlife events that took place in February 2014 to December 2014 in six top metropolitan areas with the greatest ticket volume and reputation for nightlife. Nightlife events were defined as any event that started at or after 6:00 pm and ended at or before 4:00 am in the following categories: music, film & media, performing & visual arts, fashion & beauty, charity & causes, community & culture, and seasonal & holiday. Metropolitan’s included in the study: San Francisco, New York, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Austin, Chicago. Eventbrite then surveyed more than 4,000 attendees of nightlife events to understand spending habits and preferences at nightlife events.
