EDM RANKS Kyau and Albert [EXCLUSIVE] Interview
You just released your 4th album “Distant Lights”. How did you come up with the title?
Ralph: On the last 3 albums we never had an album title which was taken from an album song. For example our first album in 2004 had the title “Here We Are Now”. The new album title “Distant Lights” to me gives a meaning of hope, like the light at the end of the tunnel.
Steven: We both had a few album title ideas. For me “Distant Lights” holds a pleasant, comforting sense of optimism, like the album sounds when listening to all tracks in the order we set for the CD release.
There are a lot of vocal songs on the album. Do you feel it is important to have true emotion in dance music?
Steven: In total we produced over 20 tracks for “Distant Lights”. When putting it together for the CD release we dropped a few instrumental tracks and also 2 tracks with my voice as we think the flow now is perfect.
If the ‘E’ in EDM could have another meaning than ‘electronic’ what meaning would you give it.
Ralph: I love ‘Emotional’, becausec music is pure emotion.
What’s the best thing about American fans?
Steven: Americans
Do you have fans that follow you around the world for shows?
Ralph: Yes there are a fans who travel continents. This is crazy. A few of them we already know. If we see them we take them backstage.
How do you enjoy social media and what was your own personal favorite post from last year which was really fun?
Steven: We do all social media by ourselves. Our manager would love that we do posts and tweets more often. Especially when we worked on the album, we sometimes had no post for a few days. For me it is ok.
Is there anything else you would like to mention?
Ralph: We gave the album to a few close friends before X-mas and all were really excited. I think this is a a good sign and makes me very happy, as it this album is a bit more diverse as the last one. We dropped a few tracks which we will release in the future. When not in the studio, Kyau & Albert are working hard at their record label ‘Euphonic’. Founded in 1997, it is the longest running trance label in the world today.
