Deadmau5 Sells His Music Catalog For $55M: You Won’t Believe Why!

Is This the End? Deadmau5’s Bold Move Shocks Fans!

In the latest EDM news, Deadmau5 has sold his entire music catalog and rights.

Three months after deadmau5 sold his music catalog to Create Music Group for $55 million, the producer, born Joel Zimmerman, reflected on the decision in a June 2 Billboard Canada cover story with Rezz.

“It was time to just let it go,”

Deadmau5 said, expressing little attachment to his catalog as a long-term asset.

Create Music Group:

The deal encompasses his extensive work, including master recordings and publishing rights for over 4,000 songs like “Ghosts ‘n’ Stuff,” “The Veldt,” and “Strobe,” including songs from EDM artists like Rezz, Skrillex, and Noisia into the catalog of his label, mau5trap records made in 2007.

Mau5trap has released music by artists such as Rezz, Lamorn, Spencer Brown, Tinlicker, Rinzen, and Kx5, his collaborative project with Kaskade.

“I’m sure they’ll make their money back and more,” deadmau5 told Billboard Canada, noting his focus on reinvesting the funds into new production and continuing his creative work.

The March deal, as reported by Billboard, includes a joint venture with Create Music Group for future deadmau5 and mau5trap releases. Additionally, Create Music Group will remaster and re-release key catalog elements, produce exclusive new content, and explore licensing and brand partnership opportunities to introduce mau5trap to new audiences.
